Pakistan has approved its Wheat Policy 2025–26, setting the procurement price at Rs. 3,500 per 40 kg to ensure fair farmer returns and strengthen food security. The federal and provincial governments will jointly procure 6.2 million tons, with inter-provincial movement unrestricted. A National Wheat Oversight Committee will monitor implementation.

The federal government has approved the Wheat Policy 2025–26, fixing the procurement price at Rs. 3,500 per 40 kilograms to ensure fair returns for farmers, strengthen national food security, and maintain adequate strategic reserves.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, attended by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, a representative of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, and the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

According to an official statement issued on Sunday, the federal and provincial governments will jointly procure about 6.2 million tons of wheat from the upcoming 2025–26 harvest at the approved price. The policy aims to stabilize market conditions while ensuring farmers receive equitable compensation.

To promote uniform supply across the country, the government has lifted all restrictions on inter-provincial wheat movement. The policy will be monitored by a National Wheat Oversight Committee, headed by the Federal Minister for National Food Security and comprising representatives from all provinces. The committee will convene weekly and report directly to the Prime Minister.

Highlighting the crop’s significance, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, “Wheat is not only Pakistan’s staple food but also a vital source of livelihood for our farmers. As an agricultural economy, wheat remains central to our national prosperity.”
