Pakistan : Khyber Pakhtunkhwa seeks federation and Punjab assistance as flour price rises

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government raised concerns over rising flour prices, urging Punjab to lift its wheat trade ban. KP Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah cited Article 151, noting 83% of KP’s wheat comes from Punjab. The federal government has been informed and assured swift action to resolve the crisis.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has raised issue of increasing flour prices with Punjab and federation.

KP Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah has contacted his Punjab counterpart Zahid Akhtar Zaman on the matter of wheat and flour.

According to sources, the KP chief secretary said that article 151 stated that no province could put restriction on the trade of grains while 83 per cent of wheat for KP came from Punjab.

He further stated that there was continuous rise in prices of wheat as they were facing hard time. Punjab should immediately lift ban on wheat, flour, he pleaded.

The KP government has informed federation about the wheat and flour crisis and the federal government has assured to resolve the matter at the earliest.
