Pakistan: People are facing inflation before Eid, sugar is available at Rs 180 per kg

Sugar prices in Pakistan have surged to Rs 180 per kg, despite government warnings to keep prices below Rs 164. The increase is driven by higher consumption during Ramzan, coupled with limited supply. Although wholesale prices dropped slightly after action against hoarders, retail prices remain high. Critics argue the government has failed to stabilize prices and ensure adequate supply.
Everyone knows the condition of inflation in India’s neighbor Pakistan. The prices of flour, rice, oil and vegetables in Pakistan are really skyrocketing. During this time, Ramzan is being celebrated in Pakistan. The consumption of sugar has increased in Ramzan, due to which the prices of sugar have increased a lot. Actually, the consumption of sugar is increasing in Ramzan but the supply is not that much. Sugar is currently being sold at the rate of Rs 180 per kg in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar had warned of a hike in sugar prices a few days ago. He had said that sugar prices in Pakistan should not go above Rs 164 per kg. However, sugar is being sold at Rs 180 per kg in retail markets. According to media reports, the average national price of sugar is between Rs 164 and Rs 180 per kg.
Slight drop in price after action against hoarders
Karachi Wholesalers Grocers Association President Rauf Ibrahim said that Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had announced action against sugar hoarders on March 15. After which the wholesale price of sugar in Karachi has come down from Rs 168 to Rs 158 per kg. There was a slight fall of Rs 10 in the wholesale prices of sugar but there was no effect on the retail prices. Retail prices of sugar are still skyrocketing.
Shahbaz government failed to stabilize the price of sugar
Association President Ibrahim said that the Shahbaz government of Pakistan failed to stabilize the sugar prices and fix the price of sugar at Rs 130. The government also failed to ensure the supply of sugar. Retailers are suffering the most due to the rising prices of sugar in Pakistan. As for the government, it is just blaming the sugar mills, it is not taking any action.
