Pakistan : Punjab restricts wheat transportation to other provinces

Punjab has banned inter-provincial movement of wheat, flour, and related products after prices soared from Rs 2,100 to Rs 3,200 per 40 kg. Border checkpoints are being set up to restrict supplies, aiming to stabilize prices and safeguard provincial food security amid shortfalls and rising flour costs.
LAHORE: In response to the unprecedented surge in wheat and flour prices, the provincial government has imposed a ban on the inter-provincial movement of wheat, flour, and other wheat products.
This decision encompasses all border districts where food controllers have been instructed to establish check-posts on motorways and provincial boundary entrance/exit routes to prevent wheat and flour movement.
It may be noted that wheat prices in Punjab skyrocketed from Rs 2,100 to Rs 3,200 per 40 kg in the last few weeks. The short supply of wheat and price hike of flour prompted the Punjab government to restrict wheat reserves and impose the ban.
The Punjab government’s decision aims to stabilise wheat and flour prices within the province and ensure food security for its residents.
