Patanjali Foods Ltd. Hosts Workshop On Oil Palm Plantation In Tripura.


On April 4, 2025, Patanjali Foods Ltd. hosted a workshop in Agartala under the National Mission on Edible Oils–Oil Palm to promote oil palm cultivation in Tripura. Government officials and experts highlighted its economic potential and outlined strategies for implementation. The event stressed farmer support, buy-back assurances, and projected a Rs 400–500 crore annual benefit for the state.
Agartala, Tripura, 4th of April 2025 : Patanjali Foods Ltd., as part of the National Mission on Edible Oils – Oil Palm (NMEO-OP), organized a focused workshop on Oil Palm Plantation in Tripura on 4th April 2025 at Hotel Polo Towers, Agartala. The initiative aims to raise awareness among stakeholders and farmers about the immense potential of oil palm cultivation in the State of Tripura & the region.
The workshop was graced by a distinguished panel of guests. Mr. Apurba Roy, IAS, Secretary Agriculture & Secretary Finance to Govt of Tripura as the Chief Guest, while Dr Phani Bhushan Jamatia, Director of Agriculture, was Guest of Honour. Mr. Dipak Kumar Das, Director of Horticulture, was the Special Guest. Dy Director Horticulture of the allotted districts in Oil Palm Operations also attended the workshop besides the senior Officers from the Directorate, Nodal Officers etc. Representative of Farmers of the alotted Oil Plam Districts also participated.
A keynote address was delivered by Mr. Ashok Kumar Singh, Head of Northeast Operations, Patanjali Foods Ltd., who underscored the company’s long-term vision for sustainable agricultural growth and farmer empowerment in the Northeast. Drawing from successful models in Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram, he explained how these states have already shown tangible progress through structured planning and proactive implementation under the Mission. He emphasized that Tripura holds similar potential, given its agro-climatic advantages and committed State Agriculture Department support and the vibrant Patanjali Team.
A major highlight of the event was a comprehensive presentation on Oil Palm in North East with special reference to Tripura by Shri Subhas Bhattacharjee, Advisor to Patanjali Foods Ltd., who offered deep insights into the various stages of Oil Palm Mission’s operations, elaborating on the end-to-end implementation strategy, including land identification, nursery development, farmer onboarding, technical support, and processing infrastructure. Shri Bhattacharjee’s presentation also detailed the unique challenges and opportunities present in the Northeast, and outlined how the common challenges such as logistics, farmer awareness, and infrastructure bottlenecks are being effectively addressed through coordinated efforts between Centre, State Governments, and stakeholders like Patanjali Foods Ltd.
Chief Guest Sri Apurba Roy IAS, appreciated the efforts of Patanjali Foods and assured the farmers and Oil Plam Growers present in the workshop that he is very positive that in next 4 years Tripura will be economically benefitted to the extent of Rs 400-500Cr annually through Oil Palm.
Guest of Honour Dr Phani BhusanJamatiaspoke on the prospect of Oil Palm operation in the state and the importance of it being nurtured through a team of professionals of Patanjali Foods Ltd highlighting the 100 % buy back arrangement made by Govt of India under the Mission with fixed price to be dictated by the Government for buy back arrangement.
Special Guest Sri Dipak kumar Das highlighted that this workshop served as a platform to reiterate that the Oil Palm Mission is not just an agricultural initiative, but an economic transformation tool; capable of enhancing farmer income and revitalizing rural economies across the State of Tripura. He also assured that similar such workshop will be held in allotted districts as well and a Mega event will be arranged in Agartala prior monsoon.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Ayan Sarkar, State Head, Oil Plam Operation, Tripura, who appreciated the participation of all stakeholders and reiterated the company’s dedication to building a robust oil palm ecosystem in Tripura soon.
