Filinvest Group’s Cotabato Sugar Central Co. Inc. achieved a historic milestone by milling over one million metric tons of sugarcane this season—the highest in over two decades and 42% above target. The record reflects sustained modernization efforts, including advanced mill upgrades and reduced downtime, reinforcing the company’s role in Mindanao’s agro-industrial development.
MANILA, Philippines — Filinvest Group’s Cotabato Sugar Central Co. Inc. said it milled a historic volume of over one million metric tons of sugarcanes in the current milling season, the first time in more than two decades.
The group said that the milled volume was also 42 percent higher than its target for the milling seaso
Filinvest attributed its record-setting performance to its long-term modernization efforts since it acquired the facility in 2002.
Cotabato Sugar, located in Barangay Kilada, Matala m, North Cotabato, was originally established in 1978. It serves sugarcane planters across North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Maguindanao.
The mill previously faced operational setbacks, closing in 1986 and again in 2000, before the Gotianun-led Filinvest Group took over and resumed operations in 2003.
“This is more than just a number,” said Juan Eugenio Roxas, president and CEO of Cotabato Sugar.
“It’s a symbol of perseverance, transformation and teamwork. It affirms our drive for operational excellence and long-term sustainability,” Roxas added.
Filinvest said the milestone was achieved through aggressive improvements in both equipment and processes.
Notable upgrades made in the sugar mill include advanced mill rollers, imbibition automation and online instrumentation for real-time monitoring of key performance indicators, according to the firm.
Furthermore, operational audits and targeted interventions also optimized output and cut downtime significantly, the company added.
“Reducing factory downtime played a key role in restoring planter confidence. It allowed us to strengthen relationships with our partners and improve overall plant efficiency,” Roxas said.
Filinvest said it continues to invest in sustainable and regionally inclusive ventures, positioning Cotabato Sugar as a catalyst for rural development and agro-industrial resilience in Mindanao.
