Philippines : Rice price dip drags down April Inflation in Davao del Norte


Davao del Norte’s April 2025 inflation rate dropped to 0.4%, driven largely by falling food prices, particularly rice. According to PSA data, food and non-alcoholic beverages contributed 92.6% to the decline. For the bottom 30% income households, inflation dropped to -1.2%, with rice alone accounting for 59.7% of the decrease, followed by seafood and vegetables.
TAGUM CITY — The sluggish movement of prices of rice and other food commodities substantially contributed to the continued nosedive of the April 2025 inflation rates in Davao del Norte.
April 2025 Inflation Rate data from the Provincial Statistics Authority (PSA) Davao del Norte showed that food and non-alcoholic beverages significantly shared 92.6 percent to the downtrend of Davao del Norte’s April Headline Inflation Rate calculated at 0.4 percent which was a further decrease from the 0.0 inflation rate in March 2025.
The same group of commodities marked a 96.3 percent contribution to the downtrend of April 2025 Inflation Rate for the Bottom 30 percent Income Households, pegged at negative (-)1.2 percent from negative (-) 0.9 percent in March 2025.
Taking a particular look at the contribution to the April 2025 Headline Inflation rate per item of the Food and Non-Alcoholic commodity group, PSA Davao del Norte revealed that “the downtrend of the food inflation was mostly attributed to the annual price decrease of rice” posting a 39.2 percent share.
Fish and seafood contributed 34 percent to this inflation fall while the bunch of vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses shared 22.3 percent to the overall inflation decrease in basket of food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Meanwhile, In the April 2025 Inflation rate for the Bottom 30 percent Income Households in Davao del Norte, the Food and Non-alcoholic commodity group also dived significantly due to the “annual price decrease of rice” that contributed a 59.7 percent to the overall downturn of the overall food inflation.
The food commodity group of vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses registered a share of 18 percent, while Fish and other seafood contributed 17 percent to the overall fall of Inflation Rate in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages.
