Pralhad Joshi inaugurates Pellet Plant, lays foundation for Bio-Ethanol plant in Haryana

India has inaugurated a pellet plant in Rewari, Haryana, and laid the foundation for the K2 Bio-Ethanol plant to convert crop residue into pellets and ethanol. The facility will support biomass co-firing in thermal plants, reduce stubble-burning pollution, cut carbon emissions, and create additional income and jobs for rural farmers.

Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, today inaugurated the pellet plant and laid the foundation stone of the K2 Bio Ethanol plant in the district of Rewari in Haryana.

The pellet plant will produce 240 tonnes of pellets per day from stubble and help in a clean environment. The plant aims to transform crop residue into ethanol, biomass pellets and rural jobs to support India’s E20 Mission and Net Zero 2070 goals.

Talking to the media after the inauguration of the pellet plant, Mr Joshi said that under the new policy, the government has mandatory biomass and Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) co-firing for all thermal plants to save the environment. He added that earlier, crop waste was a burden for farmers as well as the environment, but now it is being used as pallets in thermal plants, which is profitable for farmers.

Speaking about the facility, the Minister said that the new pellet plant will use agricultural residues such as paddy straw, mustard straw and cotton stalks to manufacture biomass pellets for thermal power co-firing. This will reduce pollution, cut carbon emissions and generate new livelihood opportunities for rural communities while creating an additional income stream for farmers.

Highlighting the government’s long-standing commitment to Haryana, Mr Joshi said that major infrastructure and clean fuel initiatives are transforming the State’s development trajectory.
