Punjab government increases sugarcane price by Rs 11 per quintal
The Punjab government declared a rise in the State Advised Price (SAP) for sugarcane, increasing it by Rs 11 per quintal. CM Bhagwant Mann termed this hike to Rs 391 per quintal as a customary gesture known as “shagun” in Punjab.
He informed the rise in sugarcane price through his tweet on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Sharing a post on X, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann wrote “Today is an auspicious day for the farmers of Punjab, as the price of the sugarcane has been increased by 11 rupees. The rate of the sugarcane is 391 rupees, which is more than the rest of the country”.
Recently, farmers in Jalandhar lifted their four-day protest after Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann assured them of “good news” in the coming days regarding their demands, including an increase in sugarcane prices. The farmers, under the banner of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), had blocked a key national highway near Dhanowali village recently to press for their demands.
Following a meeting with farmer leaders, Chief Minister Mann assured the farmers that the state government would continue to provide the highest rate to sugarcane cultivators in the state.
