Raju Shetti Requests Sugar Commissioner To Approve Extra Amount In Addition To FRP
Kolhapur: Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana founder Raju Shetti urged sugar commissioner Kunal Khemnar to mandate sugar factory owners to approve an extra amount above the FRP at their AGMs. Shetti highlighted that, due to the central government’s recent policies, mills profit more from producing ethanol and other by-products. Noting that factories like Someshwar, Malegaon, Vighnahar, and Bhimashankar approved additional bonuses last year, Shetti insists all factories should follow suit to benefit farmers.
Kolhapur: Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana founder Raju Shetti has written a letter to sugar commissioner Kunal Khemnar on Saturday demanding that he (Khemnar) order sugar factory owners to approve an extra amount in addition to the FRP at the annual general meetings of their respective sugar factories.
Farmers’ leader Raju Shetti said, “The sugar mills in the country prefer to produce ethanol and other by products, including sugar, bagasse, co-gen, spirit, alcohol and malt, from sugar cane. This is because of the central govt’s policy from the last two years. This is more profitable for the mills, after the cost of production is deducted.
”“Last year, sugar factory owners at Someshwar, Malegaon, Vighnahar and Bhimashankar profited more than the farmers. They also approved a bonus amount in addition to the fair and remunerative price (FRP) at their respective annual general meetings. However, other factories in the state have complained that there is no resolution made in the annual general meetings of their factories. So, in order for the farmers to get the bonus amunt from the surplus income of sugar and by-products in the current season, the sugar commissioner should issue an order for sugar factory owners to approve this subject in the annual general meeting of all their respective sugar factories,” added Shetti.
