Ready to help in Vaidyanath Sugar Mill issue if Pankaja gives consent, says Dhananjay Munde
fshubhangiExpressing concern over the Goods and Services Tax department’s action on Pankaja Munde-owned Vaidyanath Sugar Mill in Beed district, Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde said on Tuesday that he is more than willing to extend a helping hand on the issue.
During an informal talk with media in Mumbai, Dhananjay Munde said, “I will speak to Pankaja Tai. If she feels it is right and gives the consent, I will be more than willing to lend a helping hand whichever way possible.”
Dhananjay Munde, who belongs to NCP (Ajit faction), was responding to questions by media pertaining to GST action on the sugar mill.
On Monday, GST Commissionerate had seized assets worth Rs 19 crore to recover the unpaid dues from the sugar mill. Six months ago, GST had raised the issue and issued a notice to the sugar mill.
Expressing disappointment with action against Vaidyanath Sugar Mill, Pankaja, who is BJP’s national secretary said, “It was unfortunate. Had the government given financial aid to the sugar mill, as was done in other cases, things would not have come to such a situation.”
“The drought coupled with Covid pandemic led to financial crisis. But they gave preference to clear sugarcane farmers’dues.”
The Vaidyanath Sugar Cooperative was started by late BJP leader and Union minister Gopinath Munde. The mill is currently in liquidation.
According to Pankaja, “The purpose of the sugar mill was to provide employment to people in backward region and also ensure uplift of sugarcane farmers.”
