Record grain and soybean harvests in Brazil for the second consecutive season

Brazil is set for another record grain harvest in 2025/26, with production forecast at 354.8 million tons. Growth comes from expanded acreage and strong soybean and corn output. Soybean planting is slower, but export demand remains high. Analysts say converting degraded pastures will continue driving long-term production and export growth.

Brazil has recorded a record grain harvest for the second consecutive season. According to an updated forecast from state-owned Conab, gross grain production in the 2025/26 season will reach 354.8 million tons. This is 2.9 million tons more than last year’s record and confirms the country’s status as one of the world’s leading agricultural producers.

The harvest growth is driven by a 3.3% expansion of cultivated area to 84.4 million hectares. Soybeans (177.6 million tons) and corn (138.8 million tons) traditionally form the basis of production, while significant volumes are also projected for rice (11.3 million tons) and legumes (3.1 million tons). Analysts at Itaú BBA note that the conversion of degraded pastures to agricultural land remains a key driver of further growth.

Soybean acreage has been growing in Brazil for 18 years, and the potential for further expansion remains significant. Soybean and Corn Advisor estimates that up to 28 million hectares of pasture are suitable for conversion, which could increase soybean acreage by another 59%. Soybean production forecast for the season remains at 177 million tons, compared to 170 million tons last year, although the sowing rate is somewhat slower: as of November 9, 47% of the acreage had been sown, which is 7% less than last year.

Export activity is also growing: according to the National Association of Grain Exporters (ANEC), soybean shipments to foreign markets in November will reach 4.26 million tons—more than forecast the week before. This demonstrates robust demand for Brazilian products and the country’s strengthening position in the global oilseed market.
