Rice meant for PDS seized, 3 booked

PUNE: The Khadak police seized 2,700kg rice worth Rs 40,500 meant for public distribution shops (PDS) and a tempo worth Rs 3 lakh from Bhawani Peth around 12.30pm on Tuesday. Police registered a case against three men, all residents of Bhawani Peth, under the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act.

Senior inspector Sangeeta Yadav of the Khadak police said: “The rice was supposed to be distributed among poor people in Pune city but the three men brought the rice from different PDS outlets located in the old parts of the city and were taking it to Daund to sell it illegally.”
