Rice, paddy procurement begins in districts

The seasonal Boro paddy and rice procurement drive began in different districts of the country including Mymensingh, Kurigram and Sherpur this week.
GOURIPUR, MYMENSINGH: Internal Boro paddy and rice procurement began in Gouripur Upazila of the district on Monday.
Advocate Nilufar Anjum Popi, MP, opened the paddy collection drive at a food godown in the upazila as the chief guest.
As part of it, a discussion meeting was jointly organized by the Upazila administration and Food Department.
The meeting was chaired by Upazila Food Grain Collection and Monitoring Committee President and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Shakeel Ahmed.
As special guests, Officer in-Charge of Food Warehouse Borhan Uddin, Upazila Food Controller Saiful Islam, and Upazila Agriculture Officer Nilufar Yasin Joli spoke, among others.
This time Gouripur Food Department will procure 12, 909 metric tons (MT) of boiled rice, 47 MT of rice and 1,952 MT of rice from real farmers.
RAJARHAT, KURIGRAM: A total of 413 farmers have been selected through digital lottery for collection of IRRI-Boro Paddy in Rajarhat Upazila of the district.
UNO Khadija Begum inaugurated the digital lottery-based collection of paddy on Monday noon through mobile apps in her office.
At that time, local MPs representative Ershadunnani, Upazila Awami League General Secretary (GS) Principal Abul Kalam Azad, Rajarhat Upazila Food Controller (Acting) Md Mesbahul Hossain, Rajarhat Upazila Food Godown OCLSD Sharif Ahmed, Rajarhat Press Club GS Rafiqul Islam, and Joint GS Prahlad Mandal Saikat were present.
This year, the government has fixed per kg paddy price at Tk 32 while per kg rice price has been fixed at Tk 45 and Atop rice at Tk 44.
Each farmer can sell three MT of paddy.
Upazila food office sources said, a total of 1,240 MT of paddy will be collected from farmers; and 1.684 MT rice and 40 MT Atop rice will be collected from millers.
NALITABARI, SHERPUR: Internal paddy and rice collection was inaugurated on Tuesday in Nalitabari Upazila.
In the morning, the programme was inaugurated by UNO and President of the paddy rice collection and monitoring committee Ilishay Richil.
According to sources, 2,609 MT of paddy and 2,517 MT of rice will be collected in this upazila during the current Boro season.
The price of paddy per kg has been fixed at Tk 32, which is Tk 1,280 per maund. And the price of rice per kg is fixed at Tk 45, which is Tk 1,800 per maund.
This paddy rice collection will continue from 7th May to 31st August. The process of registration, application and lottery selection of farmers will be completed through apps under the paddy rice collection programme. All activities including subsequent bill payments will be completed online.
Among others, Nalitabari Upazila Awami League General Secretary Waj Kuruni, Awami League Central Sub-Committee Leader Gopal Chandra Sarkar, Upazila Food Controller Atiqur Rahman, Food Warehouse Officer-in-Charge Rezaul Karim, and General Secretary of Mill Malik Samity Mahmudur Rahman were present at the inaugural programme.
