Russia temporarily bans durum wheat exports, except for other EAEU countries including Armenia
The Russian government has temporarily banned the export of durum wheat, reports the press service of the Russian government.
“Russia imposes a temporary restriction on the export of durum wheat from the country. The order to this effect has been signed. The decision is aimed at ensuring food security and will contribute to maintaining a stable state of durum wheat product prices in the domestic market,” reads the respective statement.
This temporary restriction comes into effect from the moment of publicizing of the government order in that regard, and it will be in effect until May 31, 2024.
At the same time, a number of exceptions are planned. These include the export of durum wheat for the provision of international humanitarian aid and within the framework of international intergovernmental agreements, and its export from Russia to Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
Also, Russian durum wheat is still allowed to be exported to the other member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)—Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan—within the framework of the quotas set by the Russian government’s decision—if there is a respective permit issued by the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.
