Russia will sharply reduce wheat exports in 2025/26 MY – experts

SovEcon analysts predict Russia’s wheat exports in 2025/26 will drop to 36.4 million tonnes due to reduced stocks and a smaller wheat harvest. The 2024/25 export forecast has been lowered to 43.7 million tonnes, down from 44.1 million, due to low shipment rates and reduced margins. Corn exports are also revised down to 2.2 million tonnes.

SovEcon analysts predict that in 2025/26 MY Russia may sharply reduce wheat exports, shipping no more than 36.4 mln tonnes of grain to foreign markets, Interfax reports.

The company explained such a significant decrease in exports next season by the reduction of stocks and the projected drop in wheat harvest.

The experts also reduced the forecast of wheat exports from Russia in 2024/25 MY from 44.1 mln tonnes, according to the previous estimate, to 43.7 mln tonnes.

The experts explain the decrease in the estimate by “low shipment rates and a decrease in exporters’ margins”.

The forecast for corn exports was also lowered to 2.2 mln tonnes from 2.4 mln tonnes forecasted last month, while for barley this estimate was increased to 2.8 mln from 2.6 mln tonnes. The overall export forecast for Russian grains and legumes and processed products in MY 2024/25 has been lowered to 51.6 mln tonnes from 52 mln tonnes expected earlier.
