Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh: Administration reviewing impact of heavy rainfall on sugarcane crop
The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a survey to assess sugarcane crop damage in Saharanpur following heavy rains and flooding from overflowing rivers. Deputy Sugarcane Commissioner O.P. Singh said control rooms are set up, and teams are inspecting affected villages to guide farmers and coordinate recovery efforts.
Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh: In response to recent heavy rains, the state government has initiated a widespread assessment of sugarcane crop damage across the division. The evaluation is being carried out under the directives of the state government to support affected farmers and mitigate further losses, reported Amar Ujala.
Deputy Sugarcane Commissioner O.P. Singh informed that due to water inflow from the hills, several rivers in the region have overflowed, inundating villages situated along their banks. This flooding has led to waterlogging in sugarcane fields, prompting immediate review and damage analysis by agricultural authorities.
Teams comprising departmental officers and sugar mill staff, led by Senior Cane Development officials, are actively visiting affected areas to inform farmers about steps to manage and recover from the crop damage.
Following instructions received from Lucknow, control rooms have been established at both divisional and district levels to coordinate relief and response efforts.
As part of the ongoing assessment, Singh inspected several villages including Rankhandi, Ambehta Sheikh, Dehra, and Majlispur in the Khaibkhedi mill zone. During these visits, he assured farmers that their suggestions would be considered and necessary actions would be taken to address their concerns.
