SA’s 2025 maize harvest expected to be 13% higher than last year


South Africa’s Crop Estimates Committee forecasts a 13% increase in the 2024/2025 maize harvest, projecting 14.56 million metric tons, up from 12.85 million metric tons the previous season. This includes 7.7 million tons of white maize for human consumption and 6.86 million tons of yellow maize for animal feed.
South African farmers are expected to harvest over 13% more maize in the 2024/2025 season compared with the previous one, the government’s Crop Estimates Committee (CEC) said on Wednesday.
The CEC’s second summer crop forecast estimated the 2025 maize harvest at 14.56 million metric tons, up from 12.85 million metric tons harvested the season before.

The previous estimate, on February 27, had put the 2025 maize harvest at 13.91 million metric tons – 8% more than the previous year.
The harvest is expected to consist of 7.70 million tons of white maize, for human consumption, and 6.86 million tons of yellow maize, used mainly in animal feed.
