Season 2025–26 : Maharashtra sugar production reaches 950.31 lakh quintals; 113 mills close

Maharashtra’s 2025–26 sugar season nears closure with 113 of 210 mills shut. Mills crushed 1005.1 LMT cane, producing 950.31 lakh quintals at 9.45% recovery. Kolhapur division leads with 11.01% recovery. Output and crushing volumes exceed last season’s levels, signaling stronger production trends.

Sugarcane crushing in Maharashtra for the 2025–26 season is in its final stage, with 113 out of 210 sugar mills having closed operations. As per the latest figures released by the Commissionerate, sugar production in the state reached 950.31 lakh quintals as of March 3, 2026.

A total of 210 mills have so far crushed 1005.1 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugarcane, producing 950.31 lakh quintals of sugar. The average sugar recovery rate currently stands at 9.45%.

Of the 210 mills, 103 belong to the cooperative sector, while 107 are privately owned. The Kolhapur division continues to lead in both sugar output and recovery rates.

Kolhapur: Out of 39 mills in the division, all the sugar mills except one have closed operations. The mills have crushed 209.86 LMT of cane, achieving the state’s highest recovery rate of 11.01% and producing 231.07 lakh quintals of sugar.

Pune: In the Pune division, 18 out of 32 sugar mills have stopped operations. The mills have crushed 210.72 LMT of cane at a recovery rate of 9.81%, resulting in 210.72 lakh quintals of sugar.

Solapur: Of the 49 mills in the division, 26 have stopped operations. These mills have crushed 213.87 LMT of cane, recording a recovery rate of 8.55%.

During the same period in the previous season, 199 mills had begun operations, crushing 823.31 LMT of cane with an average recovery rate of 9.38%. A total of 118 sugar mills had closed operations during the same period last season.
