Season 2025–26: Sugar production in Maharashtra reaches 654.93 lakh quintals

Maharashtra’s 2025–26 sugar season has gained momentum, with 198 mills crushing 724.47 LMT of cane by January 18, producing 654.93 lakh quintals of sugar at 9.04% recovery. Kolhapur leads output and recovery, while crushing levels exceed last season’s pace.

Sugarcane crushing for Maharashtra’s 2025–26 season is well underway, with operations steadily picking up across the state. According to the latest figures from the Sugar Commissionerate, 198 sugar mills commenced crushing as of January 18, 2026.

So far, these mills have crushed 724.47 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugarcane, yielding 654.93 lakh quintals of sugar. The average sugar recovery rate currently stands at 9.04%.

Among the 198 operational mills, 98 are part of the cooperative sector, while 100 are privately owned. The Kolhapur division continues to lead in both sugar output and recovery rates.

Kolhapur: All 37 mills in the division are operational, crushing 158.44 LMT of cane and achieving the state’s highest recovery rate of 10.64%, producing 168.57 lakh quintals of sugar.

Pune: The Pune division has 30 mills in operation, which have crushed 166.6 LMT of cane at a recovery rate of 9.28%, resulting in 154.66 lakh quintals of sugar.

Solapur: With the largest number of active mills at 46, Solapur has crushed 155.94 LMT of cane, recording a recovery rate of 8.15%.

By the same date in the previous season, 199 mills had begun operations, crushing 518.68 LMT of cane with an average recovery rate of 8.85%.
