Seven Seas Petroleum LLC, a major player in Oman’s oil and gas industry, has taken a significant step towards a sustainable future by forming a partnership with Chinese electrolyser manufacturer Sungrow Hydrogen. This alliance is set to advance Oman’s green hydrogen capabilities, aligning with the country’s ambitious 2030 goal of producing one million tonnes of green hydrogen annually.

The formal agreement was signed in Beijing by Harith al Suleimany, Executive Director of Seven Seas Petroleum, and Chaocai Peng, Chairman of Sungrow Hydrogen, with Nasser bin Mohammed al Busaidi, Oman’s Ambassador to China, also present.

Seven Seas Petroleum, which has been crucial in delivering essential services to Oman’s oil and gas sector and the broader MENA region, is expanding its commitment to sustainability through this new collaboration with Sungrow Hydrogen.

In an exclusive interview with Oman Observer, Harith al Suleimany expressed excitement about the partnership, remarking, “Seven years ago, I wondered if green hydrogen could be the solution for Oman. Today, with Sungrow’s advanced technologies, we are ready to turn that vision into reality.” His foresight and dedication have been instrumental in positioning Seven Seas Petroleum as a leader in the green hydrogen sector. He added, “This collaboration seeks to harness Oman’s abundant solar and wind resources, combined with Sungrow’s advanced technologies, to develop a cost-effective and sustainable green hydrogen supply chain in the region.”

Sungrow Hydrogen is renowned for its advanced research and development program and cutting-edge electrolyser technologies. “With Sungrow’s technical expertise, we are integrating these solutions both locally and regionally, which will contribute significantly to in-country value, technology transfer, and job creation, thus strengthening the local hydrogen supply chain,” said Al Suleimany. He also addressed the challenge of production costs, noting, “As adoption grows and technology advances, the cost of green hydrogen will become more competitive.” The partnership aims to make green hydrogen production more economical and accessible through Sungrow’s diverse range of electrolysers and solutions.

This strategic alliance is also expected to enhance Oman’s position as a leader in the global green hydrogen market. Al Suleimany concluded, “With the guidance of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Oman Vision 2040 is swiftly becoming a reality.” Green hydrogen is poised to be a key player in future energy markets, and by embracing early adoption, Oman is strategically positioning itself as a reliable provider of green hydrogen and related fuels.
