South Africa raises corn crop estimate

South Africa’s Crop Estimation Committee raised the 2025 commercial maize production forecast to 16.2 million tonnes, up 26% from last year, with 8.33 million tonnes of white maize and 7.85 million tonnes of yellow maize. On-farm consumption remains 651,500 tonnes; 2026 planting runs October–December.

South Africa’s National Crop Estimation Committee (CEC) has raised its estimate for commercial corn production in South Africa in 2025 from 15.8 million tonnes to 16.2 million tonnes, a 26% increase from last year, according to Zerno On-Line. White maize production totaled 8.33 million tonnes, while yellow corn production was 7.85 million tonnes.

The estimate for corn production for on-farm consumption remained unchanged at 651,500 tonnes.

Maize planting for the 2026 harvest will take place in the country between October and December.
