Sri Lanka initiates discussion with China, Iran and African countries to export locally manufactured brown sugar


Sri Lanka has begun talks with China, Iran, and African nations to export its high-organic brown sugar, Industry Minister Sunil Handunnetti told Parliament. He highlighted growing global demand for natural sugar and said exports could help boost revenue for local sugar factories, responding to a query from Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.
Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has started talks with China, Iran, and several African nations to begin exporting brown sugar made in the country, Industry Minister Sunil Handunnetti told Parliament today, reported Daily Mirror.
He said there is strong global interest in natural sugar products, and Sri Lanka’s brown sugar has a high organic content, making it suitable for this growing market.
Minister Handunnetti was responding to a question from Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and explained that exporting brown sugar is one way the government hopes to increase income for local sugar factories.
