India’s sugar industry has paid ₹94,200 crore to farmers in the 2025–26 season, covering 85.5% of dues. Stable domestic sugar prices are supporting mill cash flows and timely payments. With arrears under control and no export cap, the policy environment remains supportive for the sector’s stability and growth.
The domestic sugar industry has paid Rs 94,200 crore to sugarcane farmers so far in the ongoing sugar season of 2025-26, according to a senior official from the Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD).
Speaking at the sidelines of ISMA SugarNXT, the official said that out of the total sugarcane price payable of Rs 1,10,228 crore as of now, the industry has already disbursed 85.5%, indicating steady progress in clearing sugarcane dues.
The sugar prices in the domestic market continue to remain stable. The supportive prices are providing a stable environment for mills to maintain cash flows and meet their financial obligations, including cane payments.
The Food Secretary yesterday noted that sugarcane arrears are “under control”. He said that there is no cap on sugar exports in the current season, signalling stable policies to support the industry.
