Sugar prices remain high across Pakistan


Sugar prices in Pakistan remain above official rates despite government approvals for imports. The national average stands at PKR 181.36 per kg, slightly down from last week but well above the fixed PKR 175. Karachi records the highest rates, with prices reaching PKR 195, straining consumers amid persistent inflation.

Consumers continue to face difficulties in purchasing sugar at affordable rates.
The maximum price of sugar currently stands at PKR 195 per kilogram. Karachi residents are paying the highest prices in the country. In Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and Khuzdar, sugar prices reach up to PKR 190 per kilogram.
The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) recently released updated data on sugar prices. According to the report, the national average sugar price fell slightly by 23 paisas per kilogram over the past week. The new average price is PKR 181.36 per kilogram. Last week, the average was PKR 181.59 per kilogram.
A year ago, the average sugar price in Pakistan was PKR 142.32 per kilogram. In Punjab, the maximum sugar price has been recorded at PKR 190 per kilogram. Last month, the government had fixed the official retail price of sugar at PKR 175 per kilogram.
