Sugar prices surge as weekly inflation rate increased across Pakistan

Pakistan’s weekly inflation rose 0.25% for the second straight week, taking annual inflation to 3.87%, official data showed. Prices of 13 items increased, including tomatoes, wheat flour, eggs and LPG, while 13 items such as potatoes, onions, chicken, rice and lentils became cheaper.

LAHORE: The weekly inflation rate increased for the second consecutive week, with the inflation rate increasing by 0.25 percent in a week.

According to the report of the Bureau of Statistics, the annual rate of inflation every week was recorded at 3.87 percent.

According to the report, 13 items became expensive and 13 became cheaper during the week. Last week, tomatoes became expensive by Rs. 18 per kg, a 20 kg bag of wheat flour became expensive by Rs. 76.78, and eggs became expensive by Rs. 7 per dozen. A domestic LPG cylinder became expensive by Rs. 240.59.

According to the Bureau of Statistics, firewood, sugar, and baby milk were also among the items that became expensive. Potatoes and onions became cheaper by Rs. 3 per kg, chicken became cheaper by Rs. 7.44 per kg, salt, jaggery, rice, lentils, and mash lentils also became cheaper.
