Sugar Production: There is no reduction in sugar production in the next season
Kolhapur News : It is being discussed that due to ‘El Nino’ the production of sugarcane will decrease in the coming season and it will also affect the production of sugar. Against this backdrop, the National Cooperative Sugar Factory Federation working at the country level, however, has denied the estimate of sugar production decline.
The federation has said that there will be a decline in sugar production only rumours. The federation has expressed this opinion while in states like Maharashtra on the one hand certificates are being given by the factories that the season lasts for only 90 days. The Federation has claimed that there will be no decrease in domestic sugar stock in the coming season.
According to the federation, there has been sufficient rainfall in other states of the country except Maharashtra. There is no question of reduction in sugar production in these states in the coming period. States like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Uttarakhand etc have received above average rainfall.
Which definitely helped to increase the weight and sucrose during vertical growth stage of sugarcane. In states like Uttar Pradesh , production of sugar will be one million tonnes more than last year. It was predicted that the sugar production will also decrease in Karnataka. But even there, the increase in area will not reduce sugar production.
Import of raw sugar to some extent possible
India may import some raw sugar for cane crushing in areas where millable cane is likely to be reduced due to climatic effects. This is important in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat where refining capacity has increased. The use of raw sugar along with sugarcane for pulverization will not only boost the factories financially but also help increase the net production of sugar, said federation sources.A decline in production is not expected in a state like Uttar Pradesh which is a leader in sugar production. Although the rains have stopped in states like Maharashtra, it is currently raining there. There is a possibility of rain in the coming period as well. This will benefit the sugarcane coming to the sludge. The coming news that sugar production will decrease does not hold to this reality.
