Sugarcane Crushing Season: Crushing, production and extraction also decreased in Sangli

The 2024-25 sugarcane crushing season in Sangli district concluded early, with mills operating for approximately 100 days, significantly shorter than the typical 140-150 days. This reduction was primarily due to a delayed start following assembly elections and diminished sugarcane cultivation, leading to decreased production and extraction rates.

Sangli News: The crushing season of 17 sugar factories in the district has just ended. This year, crushing, production and extraction have also decreased. Compared to the previous season, this year, sugarcane crushing has decreased by 11 lakh 16 thousand 881 tons, while sugar production has also decreased by
18 lakh 95 thousand 346 quintals. Sugar extraction has decreased by 0.73 percent.

In the 2025 season, 1 lakh 37 thousand hectares of sugarcane area was available for crushing. This season, 17 sugar factories have crushed 77 lakh 66 thousand 363 tonnes of sugarcane and produced 81 lakh 46 thousand 540 quintals of sugar. The sugar extraction rate is 10.57 percent.

In the 2024 season, 88 lakh 83 thousand 245 tonnes of sugarcane were crushed in the district , resulting in a production of 1 crore 41 thousand 886 quintals of sugar. The average net sugar extraction was 11.3 percent. Last year, the season of the last sugar factory in the district ended on 30 March 2024.

This year, the extraction has decreased by 0.73 percent compared to last year. In the current season, the sugar factories in the district started late after the assembly elections. The factories in Karnataka started crushing fifteen days earlier than the factories in the district. Due to this, the sugarcane on the border
in Sangli district went to Karnataka for crushing.

Last year, the last factory in the district closed on March 30, 2024. This year, the season ended on March 12, at least 18 days early. Despite the late start of sugar factories in Sangli district, this year it ended 18 days early. This means that the factories were running less for at least a month.
