Sugarcane crushing season ends in Maharashtra

Maharashtra’s 2023-24 sugarcane crushing season concluded with a 4.83 lakh tonne increase in sugar production, totaling 1101.7 lakh quintals from 1073.08 lakh tonnes of cane. The average sugar recovery rate was 10.27%. Kolhapur led with 280.64 lakh quintals at 11.59% recovery, while Nagpur trailed with 3.27 lakh quintals at 6.74% recovery. Last season, 211 mills produced 1053.41 lakh quintals from 1055.32 lakh tonnes, with a 9.98% recovery rate.

The sugarcane crushing season for 2023-24 in Maharashtra has concluded as all sugar mills have ended operations. The state has witnessed a rise in sugar production by 4.83 lakh tonnes.

Sugar mills have produced 1101.7 lakh quintals (110.17 lakh tonnes) of sugar by crushing 1073.08 lakh tonnes of sugarcane, with an average sugar recovery rate of 10.27 percent.

During the previous season, 211 sugar mills operated, and crushed 1055.32 lakh tonnes of sugarcane to produce 1053.41 lakh quintals of sugar, with an average sugar recovery rate of 9.98 percent.

In terms of sugar production, the Kolhapur region clinched the top spot by producing 28.06 lakh tonnes of sugar, whereas the Nagpur region has secured the last position by producing a minimum of 3.27 lakh quintals of sugar.
