Kolhapur Sugarcane News : In the last 5 years in Western Maharashtra, there has been an increase in the amount of cheating of sugarcane transporters and sugar mills by sugarcane cutting labourers. Due to this sugarcane transporters and factories have suffered lakhs of rupees. Meanwhile, Kolhapur District Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pandit has ordered action to be taken against sugarcane cutting lawsuits (contractors) who have cheated the transporters and sugar factories.

Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pandit said that the police will try to confiscate the property of the concerned contractors to prevent fraud. For that, their properties will be searched. Fraud cases are being filed in most of the police stations in the district since last four months.

In four months, 798 cases have been registered and 1,110 suspects such as contractors and laborers have been identified. It has come to light that all of them have cheated about Rs 68 crores. Sugarcane transporters and sugar mills cannot function without sugarcane harvesting labourers.

Keeping this need in mind, the contractors who supplied gangs of sugarcane cutting laborers took advantage of transporters and sugar mills . Lakhs of rupees were taken as deposit for labor supply and labor was not supplied on time. Pandit informed that sugarcane transporters and sugar mills in the district have suffered due to this.

Meanwhile , sugarcane transporter Abhay Shiraguppe said that I had signed a sugarcane transport contract with Jawahar Cooperative Sugar Factory in 2022-23. For this, a loan of around 5 to 7 lakhs was taken from the bank and paid to the laborers.

But due to lawsuit fraud, we have had to face huge losses due to vehicles sitting at the door during last year’s season. Meanwhile, Abhay informed that I have registered a case in this matter at Hupari Police Station.

According to the information provided by Police Inspector Kishore Shinde of Hoopri Police Station, 6 sugarcane transporters from Hoopri area have lodged a complaint with us. Accordingly, we have started taking action as per the orders of the superiors.

Notices have been sent to gang prosecutions in this regard. They have also been ordered to appear by a given date. Along with this, Shinde informed that we will take further action as per the information provided by the Superintendent of Police.
