Sugarcane FRP: Agreement with farmers regarding ‘FRP’ in three phases
Nanded News : Bhaurao Chavan Cooperative Sugar Factory is writing an illegal contract from sugarcane growers to pay FRP (Fair and Remunerative Price) in three phases. Hanumant Rajegare, District President of Swabhimani Farmers’ Association, has appealed to the farmers not to write any contract due to the shortage of sugarcane this year, and to give sugarcane to jaggery producers or factories that are paying excess price.
The Act mandates sugarcane farmers to pay the full amount as per the fixed FRP rate within 14 days of their sugarcane being cut. But the then Mahavikas Aghadi government took a wrong decision by destroying this law. In it, it was decided that if the farmers are refusing the interest on the delayed FRP, they are not obliged to pay the interest.
But factories in the state are taking advantage of this and making illegal contracts from sugarcane growers , alleged Hanumant Rajegore. Rajegore said that the Bhaurao Chavan Cooperative Sugar Factory at Degaon-Yelegaon in Ardhapur taluka of Nanded district has started writing the contract of newly planted farmers in their area of operations.
There is an agreement for sugarcane crushing, we will give unclaimed sugarcane, the first installment will be 75 percent of the FRP, from which the cost of sugarcane cutting and transportation will be deducted and given to the sugarcane cutters and transporters, the second installment will be deposited in the account by 31st July according to 15%.
The conditions are that the third installment will be credited to the account by 31st October after sugarcane supply as per 10% of FRP. Meanwhile, Hanumant Rajegore said that if the FRP is not collected in three stages as above, he is ready to waive the right to interest charged on it.
