Tamil Nadu : 70 tonnes of PDS rice seized in Krishnagiri


Authorities seized over 70 tonnes of rice meant for the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Krishnagiri during two raids by the Civil Supplies CID and a flying squad. Based on a tip-off, 43 tonnes were confiscated from two lorries, leading to another 27 tonnes found in a rice mill. One suspect was arrested, and investigations continue.
Over 70 tonnes of rice meant for the Public Distribution System (PDS) were seized in two different raids by a special team of the Civil Supplies, Criminal Investigation Department, accompanied by a flying squad here in Krishnagiri.
A release from the Civil Supplies CID said that the raids were carried out based on a tip-off, and 43 tonnes of PDS rice were seized from two lorries by a joint team of the Civil Supplies CID and the Civil Supplies flying squad. The team arrested Dandapani from Salem, and interrogated him, which led the team to another stash of 27 tonnes of PDS rice hoarded in a rice mill in Kallakurichi. The rice, as well as a heavy vehicle, was seized. The interrogation revealed that the rice was sourced from Kallakurichi, Villupuram and Ullundurpet.
