Tamil Nadu : BGR Tech Ltd. Forms Strategic Partnership with Stargate Hydrogen to Boost Green Hydrogen Production in India

BGR Tech Ltd. partnered with Estonia’s Stargate Hydrogen to introduce advanced Alkaline Water Electrolyzer (AWE) technology in India. Their pilot plant in Chennai will start green hydrogen production by May 2025. The collaboration supports India’s Green Hydrogen Mission, aiming for sustainable energy solutions and potential local manufacturing under the “Make in India” initiative.
BGR Tech Ltd., part of the Prenora Investment group in India, has entered into a strategic alliance with Stargate Hydrogen, an Estonian leader in Alkaline electrolyzer technology. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Priyadershini Raghupathy, Founder & Chairperson of BGR Tech, and Marko Virkebau, CEO & Board Member of Stargate Hydrogen.
The collaboration aims to introduce Stargate’s high-pressure Alkaline Water Electrolyzer (AWE) technology to India. Stargate’s flagship product, the Stellar Series AWE, operates at pressures up to 32 bar with a single stack capacity of 100 Nm³/h (500 kW). This design is engineered to reduce both maintenance and operational costs, making it an efficient solution for green hydrogen production.
The Stellar Series electrolyzer will be integrated into BGR Tech’s pilot plant in Chennai, which includes a state-of-the-art Ultra-Pure Water Treatment Unit, Gas Separation Unit (GSU), and Hydrogen Purification System (HPS). This integration aims to enhance the efficiency and reliability of hydrogen production systems designed for the Indian market. The pilot plant is expected to start producing green hydrogen by May 2025, serving as a research and development tool for further enhancing system performance.
The Stellar Series electrolyzer was unveiled by Her Excellency Marje Luup, Ambassador of Estonia to India, at the India Energy Week 2025 in New Delhi, marking the official launch of this collaboration. The event underscored both companies’ commitment to supporting India’s growing energy needs with sustainable solutions.
This partnership supports India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which promotes the adoption of clean energy technologies and aims to reduce carbon emissions. By combining their strengths, BGR Tech and Stargate Hydrogen plan to make significant strides in advancing green hydrogen infrastructure in India, with the possibility of exploring local manufacturing to support the “Make in India” initiative.
