24 November 2023, New Delhi: A review meeting regarding crops was organized at Krishi Bhawan under the chairmanship of Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar. This year a target has been set to cover about 60% area in wheat with climate-resilient varieties. Such varieties will make it easier to bring stability to production. The Agriculture Minister suggested forming a monitoring committee to achieve this goal.

Regarding the performance and estimated yield of Kharif crops, it was said that the growth of crops was affected due to the late arrival of monsoon and less rainfall in August, but due to monsoon rains in September being normal in most of the states, Kharif production was not much affected.

In the context of Rabi sowing, departmental officials told in the meeting that the average amount of moisture in the soil is good and the sowing work is going on smoothly. An average of 648.33 lakh hectares is cultivated in Rabi. Till now about 248.59 lakh hectares have been sown. Especially in wheat, the target is to cover about 60% of the area with climate-resilient varieties this year. Such varieties will make it easier to bring stability to production. The department will soon take action on the suggestion given by the Agriculture Minister to form a monitoring committee to achieve this goal.
