Tejashwi demands maize processing units in Seemanchal

Patna: Tejashwi Prasad Yadav urged the establishment of maize processing units in eastern Bihar, citing road drying of maize as a cause of accidents. He pledged to set up drying and storage facilities in every Seemanchal panchayat if elected. The demand follows a tragic road accident in Katihar, allegedly caused by maize drying on highways.

Patna: Leader of opposition, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, on Friday demanded establishment of Maize Processing units in the eastern region, stating that the open drying of maize grains along the roads was the major reason behind the rising road accidents. He also promised to arrange for facilities for drying and storage of maize in every panchayat of Seemanchal. “We will arrange for proper drying and storage of maize facilities in every panchayat of Seemanchal if we form the next govt in the state,” Tejashwi told reporters in Purnia on Friday.

Tejashwi was responding to a recent road accident in Katihar district where eight members were killed in a
head-on collision between an SUV and a tractor on the national highway. “I have information that the
incident occurred because farmers were drying maize crops on the roads,” he said.
