Telangana: Dispute over setting up setting up ethanol plant
BRS leader Dr. RS Praveen Kumar criticized the setup of an ethanol plant in Metpalli village, Kagaznagar Mandal, alleging it violates wildlife conservation rules by encroaching on a tiger corridor. He condemned the NTCA’s silence and highlighted concerns about pollution from the plant affecting the Kumram Bheem irrigation canal. Reports indicate the plant lacks necessary wildlife clearances and risks environmental damage near tiger reserves.
BRS leader Dr RS Praveen Kumar raised the issue of violating wildlife conservation protocols by setting up an ethanol plant in Metpalli village, Kagahznagar Mandal. Using X (formerly Twitter) criticised the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) for its silence on the matter, reports Telangana Today.
Dr Kumar stated, “Congress leaders in Sirpur are resorting to brazen violation of wildlife conservation protocols and going ahead with setting up ethanol plant just 60 meters away from tiger corridor! Local forest officials and police are helpless. @RahulGandhiji, is this what you have told your local Cong cadres? ” He referenced two news reports from ‘Telangana Today’ and Eenadu Telugu news daily to support his claims.
He further asserted that the BRS party opposed the plant’s establishment due to the lack of clearances from the National Board for Wildlife and the NTCA. The plant’s proximity to the Kawal, Tadoba Andhari, and Tipeshwar Tiger Reserves—just 60 meters away—violates the norms of the Wildlife Protection Act.
He expressed concerns that the plant would pollute the canal of the Kumram Bheem irrigation project with industrial effluents, posing a significant threat to farms and rural areas.
