Hyderabad: The state govt is set to distribute fine variety rice to ration card holders through fair price distribution shops starting from the Ugadi festival on March 30.

The launch is expected to take place in Huzurnagar assembly constituency, with civil supplies minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy likely to oversee the event. The attendance of CM Revanth Reddy at the launch is still uncertain, with a final confirmation expected in the next three to four days.

The Congress govt had promised to replace the traditionally distributed coarse variety rice with fine variety rice for white ration card holders. Additionally, the govt had announced a Rs 500 bonus per quintal of fine variety paddy for farmers, encouraging them to cultivate it across lakhs of acres.

The govt procured fine variety paddy from farmers, paying the Rs 500 bonus on top of the minimum support price. The paddy was then sent for milling, and large stocks of fine variety rice are reportedly ready for distribution.
