Thailand’s rice export value falls for 10th consecutive month

Thailand’s rice exports fell 16.9% in August to 739,497 tonnes, with total exports for January–August down 24.1% year-on-year. Export value dropped 30% to $3.94 billion. Domestic white rice prices fell 200 THB per tonne to 6,500–6,700 THB, while jasmine rice remained at 15,500–16,000 THB per tonne.

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s rice exports reported a 16.9% decrease in volume in August, with domestic prices falling by 200 THB (6.2 USD) per tonne.

According to the Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO) under the Ministry of Commerce, the country’s rice exports totalled 739,497 tonnes in August, bringing the total volume in the first eight months to over 5 million tonnes, down 24.1% year-on-year.

In terms of export value, August’s rice export value was 3.94 billion USD, reflecting a 30% drop. This marks the 10th consecutive month of falling rice exports, with declines in markets such as the US, South Africa, Senegal, Iraq, and Mozambique. However, exports grew in Cameroon, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong (China), and Canada.

Domestic rice prices have also decreased. According to the Thai Rice Millers Association, the price of white rice on September 24 is now 6,500-6,700 THB per tonne, down 200 THB per tonne from that on September 17.

Meanwhile, the price of jasmine rice remains unchanged at 15,500-16,000 THB per tonne.
