Ukraine is emerging as a key supplier of corn to the EU, rather than wheat
Analysts note Ukraine’s corn market is shifting to new crop sales, priced around \$197–206 per ton, with strong demand from Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands. EU yield issues have boosted import needs to 22–23 million tons. Ukraine has already sold 4 million tons, while sunflower oil exports to Europe continue expanding.
Analysts highlight that the corn market is gradually shifting its focus to the new crop, as last year’s grain has almost lost liquidity, and Europe’s interest in Ukrainian products remains stable. The new corn crop is estimated to be priced between $197-203 per ton, with some traders quoting higher levels at $205-206. Demand from importers is strong, particularly from Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands.
The EU is experiencing significant yield problems, which are prompting the bloc to increase imports from the previously projected 18-19 million tons to 22-23 million tons, positioning Ukraine as a crucial supplier. Ukrainian exporters have already sold approximately four million tons of the new crop, with deliveries scheduled for November-December.
Additionally, sunflower oil producer Radema (Rivne region) exports more than 80% of its products to EU countries. Two years ago, the plant launched a new production line, and by the end of 2025 they plan to open another bottling plant, which will double oil production to up to 4,000 tons per month.
