UNICA: Brazil Sugarcane processing, ethanol production slows in early November
Brazil’s sugarcane processing in the south-central region dropped 52.81% during early November compared to 2023, with ethanol production down 29-30% but sales up 13%. Total ethanol output this season reached 29.92 billion liters, a 4.5% rise, driven by a 27% increase in corn ethanol production. Domestic ethanol sales since April totaled 22.32 billion liters, up 14.36%.

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has announced that sugarcane processing was down during the first half of November. Ethanol production was also down for the two-week period, but ethanol sales were up.
Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 16.46 million metric tons of sugarcane during the first half of November, down 52.81% when compared to the same period of last year. Total sugarcane processing since the beginning of the current harvest season, which began April 1, reached 582.61 million metric tons, down 2.24%.
Mills in the region produced 1.06 billion liters (280.02 million gallons) of ethanol during the first half of November. Production included 608.08 million liters of hydrous ethanol, down 30.38%, and 450.49 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 29.51%. Corn ethanol accounted for 327.87 million liters, or 31% of total production, up 17.18% when compared to the same period of last year.
Total ethanol production since the start of the current harvest season reached 29.92 billion liters, up 4.5%. Production included 19 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 12.01%, and 10.92 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, down 6.42%. Corn ethanol accounted for 4.82 billion liters of production, up 27.02%.
Mills in the region sold 1.45 billion liters of ethanol during the first half of November, up 13.03% when compared to the same period of 2023. Domestic sales included 888.6 million liters of hydrous ethanol, up 14.36%, and 490.58 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 7.18%.
Total sales since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 22.32 billion liters, up 14.36%. Sales included 14.42 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 25.42%, and 7.9 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 1.51%.
