UNICA: Brazilian ethanol production up in early November
Brazil’s UNICA reports higher mid-November sugarcane processing and ethanol output, driven by strong hydrous, anhydrous and corn-ethanol production. Total season processing is slightly lower year-on-year, while cumulative ethanol output is down 5.6%. Mid-November ethanol sales fell, especially hydrous, though anhydrous sales increased. Corn ethanol continues to expand its share.
UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has released data showing that both sugarcane processing and ethanol production were up during the first half of November. Ethanol sales were down during the two-week period.
Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 18.76 million metric tons of sugarcane during the first half of November, up from 16.41 million metric tons processed during the same period of last year. Total sugarcane processing since the beginning of the current harvest season, which began April 1, reached 576.25 million metric tons, down 1.26% when compared to the same period of last year.
Mills in the region produced 1.35 billion liters (356.63 million gallon) of ethanol during the first half of November. Production included 769.36 million liters of hydrous ethanol, up 21.61% when compared to the same period of last year, and 577.35 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 28.44%. Corn ethanol accounted for 386.24 million liters, or 28.68% of total production during the two-week period, up 10.31% when compared to the same period of 2024.
Total ethanol production since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 28.35 billion liters, down 5.6% when compared to the same period of last year. Production included 17.6 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, down 7.89%, and 10.75 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 1.59%. Corn ethanol accounted for 5.65 billion liters of production, up 16.27%.
Mills in the region sold 1.38 billion liters of ethanol during the first half of November. Sales included 533.91 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 1.94%, and 847.74 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 9.74%.
Domestic sales for the first half of November included 810.35 million liters of hydrous ethanol, down 10.56%, and 532.44 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 8.69%.
Sales since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 22 billion liters, including 13.75 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, down 5.345, and 8.26 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 4.49%.
