UNICA: Corn ethanol production remains high in early February

Brazil’s sugarcane industry association, UNICA, reported that corn ethanol production accounted for nearly 96% of total ethanol output in early February. Ethanol sales increased, while sugarcane processing declined by 4.98% in the current harvest season. Corn ethanol production rose by 31.97%, reaching 7.14 billion liters. Overall ethanol sales since the start of the season totaled 31.21 billion liters, up 10.49%.

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has released data showing corn ethanol production continued to trend higher during the first half of February, accounting for nearly 96% of total ethanol production during. Ethanol sales were also up. 

Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 244,780 metric tons of sugarcane during the first half of February, down from 548,580 metric tons during the same period of last year. Total sugarcane process since the beginning of the current harvest season, which began April 1, 2024, reached 614.4 million metric tons, down 4.98% when compared to the same period of the previous harvest season. 

Mills in the region produced 380.62 million liters (100.55 million gallons) of ethanol during the first half of February. Corn ethanol accounted for 364.78 million liters of that volume, with sugarcane ethanol production at 15.84 million liters. 

Ethanol production since the start of the current harvest season reached 33.57 billion liters, up 3.72% when compared to the same period of the previous harvest season. Production included 21.37 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 10.05%, and 12.2 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 5.77%. Corn ethanol accounted for 7.14 billion liters of production, up 31.97%. 

Mills in the region sold 1.39 billion liters of ethanol during the first half of February, up 7.03% when compared to the same period of last year. 

Domestic sales included 548.03 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 14.79%, and 847.35 million liters of hydrous ethanol, up 2.55%. 

Ethanol sales since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 31.21 billion liters, up 10.49%. Sales included 20.05 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 17.33%, and 11.17 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 0.04%.
