UNICA: Ethanol production down in late November, sales continue to trend higher
Brazil’s sugarcane mills in the south-central region processed 20.35 million metric tons of sugarcane in the second half of November, down 15.2% compared to last year. Ethanol production during this period reached 1.19 billion liters, a decrease of 1.31% for hydrous ethanol and 11.64% for anhydrous ethanol. However, corn ethanol production increased by 43.05%. Total ethanol sales in November rose by 3.24%, with domestic sales of hydrous and anhydrous ethanol up 10.54% and 4.24%, respectively. Since the start of the harvest season, total sales increased by 13.13%.

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has announced sugarcane processing was down during the second have of November. Ethanol production was also down for the two-week period, but sales were up for the full month.
Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 20.35 million metric tons of sugarcane during the second half of November, down 15.2% when compared to the same period of last year. Sugarcane processing since the beginning of the current harvest season, which began April 1, reached 602.94 million metric tons, down 2.75%.
Mills in the region produced 1.19 billion liters (314.36 million gallons) of ethanol during the second half of November. Production included 774.5 million liters of hydrous ethanol, down 1.31%, and 414.8 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 11.64%. Corn ethanol accounted for 368.86 million liters, or 31.02% of total production during the period, up 43.05% when compared to last year.
Ethanol production since the start of the current harvest season reached 31.17 billion liters, up 4.31%. Production included 19.84 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 11.8%, and 11.33 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 6.63%. Corn ethanol accounted for 5.25 billion liters of production, up 29.67% when compared to the same period of last year.
Mills in the south-central region sold 2.93 billion liters of ethanol in November, up 3.24% when compared to the same month of last year. Domestic sales included 1.78 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 10.54%, and 978.86 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 4.24%.
Total sales since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 23.84 billion liters, up 13.13%. Sales included 15.42 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 24.01%, and 8.42 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 2.54%.
