UNICA: Ethanol production, sales remain strong in early September
In early September, sugarcane mills in Brazil’s south-central region processed 42.93 million metric tons, up 2.46% from last year. Ethanol production reached 2.43 billion liters, with hydrous ethanol rising 26.66%, while anhydrous ethanol slightly declined. Corn ethanol production grew by 17.78%, contributing 14% of total output. Total ethanol sales increased by 0.7%.

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has announced sugarcane processing and ethanol production during the first half of September remained higher than last year despite the impact of recent fires. Ethanol sales were up slightly.
Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 42.93 million metric tons of sugarcane during the first half of September, up 2.46% when compared to the same period of last year. Total sugarcane harvesting since the beginning of the current harvest season, which began April 1, reached 466.26 million metric tons, up when compared to the 448.55 million metric tons processed during the same period of last year.
Mills in the region produced 2.43 billion liters (641.94 million gallons) of ethanol during the first half of September. Production included 1.6 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 26.66% when compared to the same period of last year, and 833.77 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 3.9%. Corn ethanol production accounted for 336.06 million liters or 14% of total production, up 17.78% when compared to the same period of 2023.
Total ethanol production since the start of the current harvest season reached 22.95 billion liters, up 8.15%. Production included 14.66 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 17.88%, and 8.29 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 5.62%. Corn ethanol production accounted for 3.47 billion liters of production, up 26.01% when compared to the same period of last year.
Mills in the south-central region sold 1.32 billion liters of ethanol during the first half of September, up 0.7% when compared to the same period of last year. Domestic sales included 811.22 million liters of hydrous ethanol, up 2.04%, and 475.5 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 3.645.
Total ethanol sales since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 16.21 billion liters, up 16.76%. Sales included 10.52 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 32.61%, and 5.69 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 4.37%.
