UNICA: Ethanol Production, Sales Up In Late November
UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has announced sugarcane processing was up during the second half of November. Ethanol production and sales were also up when compared to the same period of last year.
Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 23.9 million metric tons of sugarcane during the second half of November, up 46.14 percent when compared to the same period of 2022. Sugarcane processing since the start of the current harvest season, which began April 1, reached 534.14 million metric tons, up 15.94 percent when compared to the same period of the previous harvest season.
Ethanol production for the second half of November reached 1.25 billion liters (330.22 million gallons), up 39.91 percent when compared to the same period of 2022. Production included 778.19 million liters of hydrous ethanol, up 98.55 percent, and 469.52 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 6.07 percent. Corn ethanol accounted for 257.75 million liters, or 21 percent of total production, up 30.987 percent when compared to the same two-week period of last year.
Mills in the region have produced 29.85 billion liters of ethanol since the beginning of the current harvest season, up 11.87 percent, including 17.71 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 14.74 percent, and 12.14 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 7.94 percent. Corn ethanol production accounted for 4.05 billion liters of production, up 41.98 percent when compared to the same period of the previous harvest season.
Mills in the south-central region sold 2.82 billion liters of ethanol in November, up 16.13 percent when compared to the same period of last year. Sales included 1.72 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 28.61 percent, and 1.11 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 0.94 percent. Domestic sales of hydrous ethanol reached 1.59 billion liters, up 27.21 percent, and 938.96 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 1.86 percent. Ethanol exports for November reached 291.07 million liters, up 31.29 percent.
Total ethanol sales since the beginning of the current harvest season totaled 21.04 billion liters, up 5.79 percent when compared to the same period of last year. Sales included 12.4 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 7.32 percent, and 8.64 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 3.67 percent.
