UNICA: Ethanol Sales Up During First Half Of September
UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has announced that sugarcane processing and ethanol sales were both up during the first half of September. Ethanol production was down slightly when compared to the same period of last year.
Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 41.76 million metric tons of sugarcane during the first half of September, up 5.35 percent when compared to the same period of last year. Total sugarcane processing since the beginning of the current harvest season, which began April 1, reached 448.33 million metric tons, up 10.34 percent when compared to the same period of 2022.
Mills in the region produced 2.12 billion liters (560.04 million gallons) of ethanol during the first half of September, down 0.44 percent when compared to the same two-week period of last year. Production included 1.25 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 2.14 percent, and 867.32 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 3.93 percent. Corn ethanol accounted for 13 percent, or 282.26 million liters, of production during the two-week period, up 32.93 percent when compared to the same period of 2022.
Total ethanol production since the start of the current harvest season reached 21.21 billion liters, up 5.54 percent, including 12.42 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 1.64 percent, and 8.79 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 11.59 percent. Corn ethanol has accounted for 2.75 billion liters of production so far this harvest season, up 44.79 percent when compared to the same period of last year.
Mills in the south-central region sold 1.3 billion liters of ethanol during the first half of September, up 12.2 percent when compared to the same period of last year. Sales included 833.24 million liters of hydrous ethanol, up 23.63 percent, and 467.91 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 3.66 percent.
Domestic sales of hydrous ethanol during the two-week period reached 785.56 million liters, up 19.71 percent when compared to the same period of last year. Domestic sales of anhydrous ethanol were at 458.88 million liters, up 2.04 percent.
Total ethanol sales so far this season have reached 13.87 billion liters, up 3.49 percent. Sales included 7.92 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, down 0.2 percent, and 5.95 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 8.86 percent.
