UNICA: Rain Impacts Sugarcane Processing In Early July
UNICA reported that rain negatively impacted sugarcane processing in Brazil during the first half of July, with mills in the south-central region processing 43.17 million metric tons, down 11.07% from last year. Ethanol production fell, with hydrous ethanol decreasing by 1.02% and anhydrous ethanol by 13.39%. However, ethanol sales increased by 21.23%, with domestic sales of hydrous ethanol rising by 52.54%. Overall, total ethanol production for the season was up 9.73%.
UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has reported that sugarcane processing during the first half of July was negatively impacted by rain. Ethanol production was down during the two-week period, but sales were up.
Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 43.17 million metric tons of sugarcane during the first half of July, down 11.07% when compared to same period of last year. Total sugarcane processing since the beginning of the current harvest season, which began April 1, reached 259.03 million metric tons, up 8.71% when compared to the same period of 2023.
Mills in the region produced 2.13 billion liters (562.69 million gallons) of ethanol during the first half of June. Production included 1.29 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, down 1.02% when compared to the same period of last year, and 835.53 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 13.39%. Corn ethanol production accounted for 308.1 million liters, or 14.5% of total production, up 14.67% when compared to the same period of 2023.
Total ethanol production since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 13.14 billion liters, up 9.73%. Production included 8.25 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 21.83%, and 4.79 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 6.44%. Corn ethanol production reached 2.11 billion liters, up 24.16%.
Mills in the south-central region sold 1.39 billion liters of ethanol during the first half of July, up 21.23% when compared to the same period of last year. Domestic sales included 869.52 million liters of hydrous ethanol, up 52.54%, and 477.58 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 3.57%.
Total sales since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 10.55 billion liters, up 22.08%. Sales included 6.56 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 43.8%, and 3.49 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 4.93%.
