UP govt allocates s 1,967-cr to expand sugar mills’ capacity

The UP government is expanding sugar mill capacity in Gajraula, Baghpat, Morna, and Semikhera, with Rs 1,967 crore allocated for upgrades. Gajraula and Baghpat mills will nearly double capacity, while Morna and Semikhera undergo phased enhancements. A digital IT system will streamline operations, aiming to boost efficiency and sugar production across the state.

Lucknow: The state govt said on Friday the capacity of sugar mills in Gajraula, Baghpat, Morna, and Semikhera was being expanded.

A state govt spokesperson said the DPR was also submitted for technical upgrades at the Rudra Bilaspur Sugar Mill. A total allocation of Rs 1,967 crore was made for the enhancement of efficiency and productivity of sugar mills across the state.

The state govt was also undertaking comprehensive capacity expansion and technological modernisation of operational sugar mills to boost sugar production. As part of this initiative, Gajraula and Baghpat sugar mills are expanding their capacity from 2,500 TCD to 4,900 TCD, with allocations of Rs 545.52 crore and Rs 570 crore, respectively.

Morna Sugar Mill is upgraded from 2,500 TCD to 3,500 TCD in the first phase. By April 30, a DPR for its second phase expansion to 5,000 TCD will be submitted. Likewise, Semikhera Sugar Mill will also see a capacity upgrade from 2,750 TCD to 3,500 TCD.

To further enhance operational efficiency, a robust IT framework is being introduced for the digitalisation of inventory management and procurement processes.
