US corn harvest rates are lower than last year

As of September 28, 2025, U.S. corn harvest reached 18% of acreage, slightly below last year’s 20% and the five-year average of 19%. Winter wheat plantings stood at 34% of the intended area, underperforming expectations and below the five-year average of 36%, according to USDA NASS.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), 18% of the country’s corn acreage had been threshed as of September 28, below market expectations. On the same date a year ago, 20% of the corn acreage had been threshed, compared to the five-year average of 19%.

Winter wheat plantings as of September 28 amounted to 34% of the planned volume, also below expectations and below the five-year average of 36%.
