USDA: Corn use for fuel ethanol at 465 million bushels in November
The USDA’s January report showed a 2% year-over-year increase in corn use for fuel ethanol production in November 2024, reaching 465 million bushels. Corn oil production rose to 201,882 tons, while distillers dried grains output fell to 381,785 tons. Carbon dioxide capture was 219,971 tons, up from November 2023. Wet mills saw mixed performance in byproduct production.
The USDA recently released its Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report for January, reporting that corn use for fuel ethanol production in November 20024 was up 2% when compared to the same month of 2023.
Total corn consumed for alcohol and other purposes was 514 bushels in November, down slightly when compared to the previous month, but up 1% when compared to November 2023. November usage included 92.6% for alcohol and 7.4% for other purposes.
Corn consumed in November for fuel alcohol production reached 465 million bushels, down slightly from October, but up 2% when compared to November 2023. Corn consumed for dry milling fuel production and wet mills fuel production was 91.6% and 8.4%, respectively.
At dry mill, condensed distillers solubles production was at 116,3354 tons in November, up from 112,013 tons in the previous month, but down from 122,984 tons in November of the previous year. Corn oil production expanded to 201,882 tons, up from both 198,165 tons in October and 188,008 tons in November 2023. Distillers dried grains production fell to 381,785 tons, down from 390,721 tons in October and 399,555 tons in November of the previous year. Distillers dried grains with solubles production was at 1.84 million tons, down from 1.87 million tons the previous month, but up when compared to the 1.8 million tons produced in November of the previous year. Distillers wet grains production fell to 1.25 million tons, down from 1.31 million tons in October and 1.37 million tons in November 2023. Modified distillers wet grains production was at 432,980 tons, up from 429,103 tons the previous month, but down from 453,944 tons in November of the previous year.
At wet mills, corn germ meal production fell to 58,717 tons in November, down from 65,840 tons in October and 61,690 tons in November of the previous year. Corn gluten feed production expanded to 258,388 tons, up from 251,577 tons the previous month and 242,462 tons in November 2023. Corn gluten meal production fall to 81,263 tons, down from both 104,520 tons in October and 110,684 tons in November 2023. Wet corn gluten feed production expanded to 219,853 tons, up from 205,988 tons the previous month and 202,534 tons in November of the previous year.
Carbon dioxide captured at wet and dry mills was at 219,971 tons in November, down from 263,744 tons in October, but up from 198,060 tons in November 2023.
